IBD Sub-group

NEW - INFLIXIMAB LOSS OF RESPONSE ALGORITHM

The network has contributed to the National Clinical Audit of Paediatric IBD Inpatient care UK ( IBD 400). This national report on IBD care showed that RHSC was doing well across most areas. Particularly in relation to seeing a paediatric IBD specialist nurse on admission where 100% of cases were seen, in comparison to the national average where 17% were seen. This was made possible by the recruitment of a second IBD nurse in 2009.
Key areas for improvement have been addressed by WoSPGHaN:

  • Improving the collection of stool samples for Standard Stool Cultures (SSC) was 75% for ulcerative colitis patients (national average 70%). The network is aspiring to achieve 100%. In Crohn’s patients the figure was 56% (national average 41%)
  • Improving the collection of SSC Clostridium Difficile Toxin samples taken in 25% for ulcerative colitis patients (national average 35%). In Crohns patients the figure was 33% (national average 28%)

To improve communication between clinicians there has been the development of a standard discharge proforma for IBD patients.
