What is WoSPGHaN

West of Scotland Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition

Paediatric Gastroenterology Hepatology & Nutrition (PGHN) represents a medical speciality dedicated to the care of children with gut, liver and nutritional problems.

Why was WoSPGHaN formed?

Collectively, health professionals working with patients with PGHN problems wished to develop a comprehensive, high quality service across the West of Scotland.

Aim of WoSPGHaN

The aim of the WoSPGHaN MCN is to have a link group of health professionals from all areas working in a co-ordinated manner, unconstrained by existing professional and trust/health authority boundaries to ensure equitable provision of a high quality and clinically effective service.

The WoSPGHaN MCN is based on the principle “age appropriate, safe and effective (high quality) care delivered as locally as possible".

Objective

The overall objective of the network is to provide and maintain a patient focussed high standard, evidence based, equitable and multidisciplinary service for children who come under the remit of the network across the West of Scotland. This covers five health board areas, one tertiary centre and five district general hospitals. There is also strong links to primary care.

The network also aims to support the development and upskilling of all specialists; this includes medical staff, nursing, dietetic and psychology.  Extended roles for all team members should be developed with the aim of providing more comprehensive care.

The network would actively work with Information Services Division to develop continuous quality improvement measures across the service.

The Launch

WOSPGHAN was formally launched in March 2010. Since then it has formed a multi -disciplinary steering group which is driving work streams in improving communication, transition, clinical standards, enteral feeding and data management.
